Astros' Diaz to IL with oblique strain

Houston catcher Yainer Diaz was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left oblique strain suffered during batting practice Monday.

Manager Joe Espada didn't provide a specific timeline for Diaz's return, only that he'd be out 'for a while.' The Astros called up catcher César Salazar from Triple-A Sugar Land to serve as backup with Christian Vázquez stepping in as starter.

The 27-year-old Diaz is hitting .248 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 26 games this season. Houston also made several other roster moves Tuesday, recalling right-hander Jason Alexander and outfielder Zach Dezenzo from Sugar Land, reinstating infielder Nick Allen from the IL, and designating outfielder Dustin Harris for assignment. turconews.click
